23 (twenty-three) is a positive integer following 22 and preceding 24. It is an odd prime number. It is also the highest possible prime factor of any cycle length of any algorithm on an NxNxN puzzle cube.

  • In Greek-based number-naming systems, 23 is associated with prefix "triaicosa-", and with prefix "treviginti-" in Latin systems.
  • Garrett Wilkinson calls this number the king's dozen.[1]

In pope numbering[]

Its Roman numeral (XXIII) is the highest number, which has been used in a name of a pope (namely, Pope John XXIII) or an antipope (namely, Antipope John XXIII).
